Norm Lever took part in 7 amphibious landings of which 5 were in New Guinea to clear the beaches of Japanese resistance. The other 2 being the first US Forces to return to the Philippines. The 6th Rangers were portrayed in the movie "The Great Raid" where 511 POW'S, from the Bataan Death March, were rescued. Today, it still remains the largest rescue mission in United States Military history.

BRONZE STAR AWARDED 16 MAY 1945
Under the Direction of the President, Captain Norman G. Lever, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations, Luzon, Philippines from March 11 to March 14, 1945, is awarded the Bronze Star.
Captain Lever was the leader of 2 patrols which operated well into the rear of enemy positions and secured valuable intelligence pertaining to enemy troop dispositions, positions, supply dumps, and artillery locations
The patrols were attacked by the enemy who attempted a double envelopment; one section was called back after killing 4 of the enemy, while Captain Lever remained in position to further observe and report on enemy activity.

*1945 A-Bomb dropped ending war
